Brookside Primary School

A joyful, caring, collaborative community!

About Us

Brookside Primary School is a PK-4th grade school in the village of Waterbury, VT.  We are part of the Harwood Unified Union School District (HUUSD) which serves the towns of Waterbury, Duxbury, Moretown, Waitsfield, Warren and Fayston.

Brookside Primary School was formerly called Thatcher Brook Primary School.  The name was changed in 2021 after the community learned that Partridge Thatcher, the school and neighboring brook's namesake, was an enslaver.  A student panel engaged the community in a name selection process, and the name Brookside was brought before the HUUSD school board for approval in June 2021.

Nestled in the village of Waterbury, students have access to common and town land for learning, exploring and recreating outdoors.  Students benefit from looping classrooms in grades 1-2 and 3-4, where the same students and teacher are together for two years as a learning community.

BPS is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school and our three codes are:

  • Be Safe

  • Be Respectful

  • Be Responsible
